The tallest building ever to be constructed in Kelowna has just received development permit approval from Kelowna City Council.

Westcorp’s proposed 33 storey hotel and condo project was approved by a vote of 5-2 on Tuesday night. The building, previously approved for only 26 stories, will include 174 hotel rooms, 49 condos, a conference centre, restaurant, and commercial space on the ground floor. When complete it will not only be the tallest city structure, but the tallest building between the Lower Mainland and Calgary.

The hotel is the latest in a number of high density residential development projects approved by City Council for Kelowna’s Downtown.

Westcorp will be opening a sales centre for the condo portion of the development this summer, and depending on sales pace construction may begin by the end of this year.
